EXCESS SWEATING (Hyperhidrosis)

Hyperhidrosis – The Silent Handicap

Hyperhidrosis is a fairly common condition in which a person feels embarrassment or discomfort from excessive sweating. Excess sweating can be a debilitating circumstance both psychologically and socially. In many cases it can cause a number of undesirable feelings ranging from shame and anxiety to anti-social behaviour. As people frequently feel self-conscious about their condition, it can often interfere with everyday activities including reduced clothing choices, difficulty with public speaking and avoidance of exercise and heat.

Preventing Hyperhidrosis with Botox

Botulinum toxin (Botox) is highly effective for the prevention of underarm sweating. Botox is used in minute quantities to treat hyperhidrosis with high margins of safety. Administered through tiny injections by a doctor, the medication works by blocking the nerve endings controlling the treated area’s sweat glands. A local anaesthetic cream can be applied before the treatment at the clinic or at home for increased comfort. Patients usually begin to feel reduced sweating within 2 to 3 days. The full effect usually sets in after 3 to 10 days and lasts for about 6 to 9 months. As Botox is by no means a cure for hyperhidrosis, sweating progressively returns as the medication wears off. As a result, patients often choose to renew the treatment 1 to 2 times per year to maintain the effect indefinitely.

BESPOKE BOTOX AT ESSEX AESTHETICS

Essex Aesthetics ensures the same doctor will see you for the free initial consultation, treatment and complimentary follow-up at our Chelmsford clinic.

Free complimentary follow-up appointments will be scheduled 14-28 days after treatment to test the underarms for sweating and adjust the treatment if necessary.

Our treatments are virtually pain-free as a local anaesthetic cream can be applied before injection.

Please note that you should avoid deodorants on the days of the procedure and follow-up appointment.

What is Botox?

For over 40 years Botox has been used for various cosmetic purposes and is one of many natural toxins used in medical practice. It is actively used for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, after strokes, and for many other indications, including cosmetic treatments, most of which are available at our clinic.
